Why It All Started
KW Creators was born out of a shared passion for creativity and community, deeply rooted in our love for pop culture. The story began with our fascination with conventions—those lively spaces where creativity thrives, connections are forged, and people from all walks of life come together to celebrate shared interests. For us, these events were more than just gatherings; they were a source of inspiration and a platform to explore our creative potential.
Our journey started in Kitchener-Waterloo, where all of us grew up and met in high school. It was there that we bonded over our mutual love for video games, movies, and the vibrant world of pop culture. From late-night conversations about the latest Nintendo releases to sharing our favorite fandom’s, these shared passions brought us closer together and shaped the foundation of what would eventually become KW Creators.
When the pandemic hit, everything changed. Graduating during COVID-19 meant many of the opportunities to gather, create, and share our interests disappeared. Determined to stay connected to the things we loved, we launched a YouTube channel and podcast. These platforms became our creative outlet, allowing us to discuss the latest in pop culture media and connect with an audience who shared our enthusiasm. Beyond that, we also loved finding other ways to connect with people—whether it was taking care of a fan-base wiki or participating in online conventions like Zelda Creator Con. These activities kept us engaged with the communities we cherished and showed us the power of building relationships through shared passions.
Over time, life began pulling us in different directions, and those projects naturally wound down. Yet, the desire to create, to be part of something meaningful, never left us. That lingering passion led to the birth of KW Creators. We wanted to build something bigger than ourselves—a community where creators of all kinds could come together to showcase their talents, collaborate, and connect with others who share their love of creativity.
KW Creators exists to fill the gap we felt during those years. We wanted to bring the energy of pop culture conventions to our local community, providing opportunities for creators to shine and for attendees to discover something new and inspiring. It’s our way of giving back to the community that shaped us, creating spaces where creativity is celebrated, and everyone feels welcome to join in.
